- If the search engine that you want to use doesn't appear in the menu, click Manage. In the Search Engines dialogue box, select the search engine that you'd like to use, click Make Default, then click Close. If your search engine doesn't appear in this list either, learn how to add a new search engine option.
- Click Chrome in the top left-hand corner.
- Select Preferences...
- Click the Basics tab.
- Select the search engine from the 'Default search' menu.
- Click Close.
- Open Internet Explorer by pressing the Start button and clicking Internet Explorer.
- Click the arrow to the right of the search box at the top right of your screen.
- Click Manage Search Providers.
- Click the search provider that you would like to set as the default, press Set as Default and then press Close.

- Click Change Search Defaults.
- Click the search provider that you would like to set as the default, press Set as Default and then press OK.
Internet Explorer 6 and prior versions of IE do not include a built-in search box, therefore it is not possible to change the default search engine.

- You can also switch quickly back and forth between search engines as the default search engine by using the search box at the top of the browser. Simply click the downward-pointing arrow and select the search engine that you'd like as the default.
Changing your default search engine in Safari currently requires advanced technical skills. It's possible, but we'd warn against trying it unless you are already familiar with your computer's Terminal application.
Opera has a default list of search engines ready for you to use, but you can also add a search engine that you'd like to use and give it a search keyword. To add a new search engine:
- Display the Web page for the search engine.
- In the search field for that search engine (not Opera's search field), right click or focus the cursor.
- Select "Create search".
- Type a keyword for this search engine and click "OK".
Alternatively, you can go to Preferences > Search, click the Add button and fill in the details of the search engine.

Change your default browser
- Locate and open Safari.
- At the top left of the screen, click Safari and select Preferences... from the drop-down menu.
- Choose whichever browser you'd like from the Default web browser drop-down menu.
- Open the web browser that you would like to set as the default.
- Go to the Options menu (sometimes called Preferences).
- Locate a section called Default Browser.
- Choose to set the browser that you have open as the default. This may require clicking Make [browser name] my default browser or first pressing Check Now to see if the browser that you have open is the default.
